Most Expensive Books

Out of pure curiosity, I’ve been searching through lists of the most expensive books in the world. Unsurprisingly, the list was topped by first editions of books that are 100s of years old, from Shakespeare’s First Folio, to Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. These books are worth millions, and rightly so. They are pieces both of history and of literature, as valuable as any golden trinkets from the same age.

Amongst these books was a much newer one: J.K Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard. J.K created seven of these, each of them handwritten and illustrated. She gave them away to friends and families, only for one of them to find its way into auction in 2007 where it was picked up by Amazon for nearly $4 million! (it was expected to receive a mere $100k).

Amazing.
